初試 SVS PC13-Ultra

今天將其中一個新購入的 SVS PC13-Ultra 接駁上，

嘗試與用開的2個 M&K Subwoofer 其中的 MPS-5310 作比較。

兩者均以平衡 Balanced XLR 作輸入，用 Lexicon MC-12B 的 Bass Management 設定為 THX 80Hz，

用自動 Room EQ 、Speaker Distance 及 Sound Level 設定完成後，

用人手以 Pink Noise + Sound Level Meter 將 Subwoofer 的聲壓略為調高 +3dB。

SVS Tune at 20Hz，即所有3個 Air Port 都留空；

感覺 SVS PC13-Ultra 的量感與 M&K MPS-5310 不相伯仲，

但 M&K 速度及收放較快，可能是 SVS 太新未進行 Run-in 有關！



再 set SVS Tune 至 15Hz，感覺下潜比 M&K 低



初步測试，SVS 的質量表現不俗！

決定坐而起行，將 2 個於右面的 M&K 換出，以 SVS 替代!

For initial comparison purpose, I set the phase of both M&K MPS-5310 and SVS PC13-Ultra the same at 0 for rough try.

I will try to fine tune the SVS tomorrow to find the appropriate phase for my room.

I suppose the SVS placed at the Left front corner may be different to the one placed at the right front corner.



According to SVS, you can set the phase of single subwoofer at 0 together with setting the subwoofer distance.

This parameter may more or less work.

I think the hardest part is to get the phase correctly set for left and right subwoofer.

I agree the phase of the twin subwoofers should be set proper to avoid out of phase.

However, it is not very difficult.

For a good bass management AV amp such as Lexicon, the cutting of bass (i.e. 80Hz) is very sharp.

Hence, nearly all the frequencies below 80Hz will be output by the subwoofer while the phase influence by the main or surround speakers is minimum.

So you just need to set the first subwoofer in correct phase (i.e. more bass can be heard).

Then set the phase of second subwoofer such that the bass will not decrease (cancelled out).

For correct phase, the bass will be maximum at your listening position.

It is relatively easy with the help of one family member to turn the phase control slowly.



Any usage comment with your twin PC13-Ultra when comparing with your MX-350 ??
